Calaveras County Water District employees who are members of the Service Employees International Union, Local 1021, are threatening to strike if CCWD proceeds with its plan to cut or eliminate healthcare benefits for the Water District’s retirees.
On Tuesday, 22 retirees and current CCWD workers joined in solidarity at CCWD’s San Andreas headquarters building on St. Charles Street to protest management’s plan to bring rising insurance premium costs under control, which the union complains is being undertaken on the arthritic backs of its retirees.
SEIU, with 57 union members under contract with CCWD, was gearing up Tuesday for a showdown with the water district’s board of directors on Oct. 10, at its regular monthly meeting.
